Stormey’s work brings together lived experience, clinical expertise, and a systems perspective to deepen understanding and strengthen the ways we support adoptees, families, and the professionals and organizations who serve them.
She partners with individuals and families navigating the complexities of adoption, professionals seeking to strengthen their practice, and organizations working toward more informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered approaches.
Stormey Nielsen, LCSW, is a Black transracial adoptee, therapist, and adoption consultant whose work explores the intersections of adoption, racial identity, and mental health. She brings both lived experience and professional expertise to her work. Her journey of reunion continues to inform her understanding of identity, belonging, and the experiences of transracial adoptees across the lifespan.
Stormey holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Utah and has experience in adoption-competent practice. Her professional background includes providing therapeutic services to youth and families involved in foster care, residential treatment, and juvenile justice settings, as well as supporting transracial adoptive families through therapy, consultation, and education.
A perspective shaped by experience, informed by clinical practice, and grounded in the needs of adoptees and families.
